Green Friday

In the weekend from November 30 to the 2nd of December, Agora Aveiro’s Green Friday came into action, part of the project “Plantar o Futuro”.

Estimated reading time: 1 minute and 28 seconds

In cooperation with Agrupamento de Escolas de Novo Príncipe - Cacia, Associação Comercial do Distrito de Aveiro and City Hall of Aveiro, we issued a challenge to the people of Aveiro: for every €10 spent in local businesses, a native tree would be planted in the region of Aveiro. In total, twenty four businesses joined our initiative, among them Alma de Alecrim, Casa Martelo, Gelataria Milano and Pássaro de Seda Atelier. The trees to be planted were grown by the students of Agrupamento de Escolas de Novo Príncipe de Cacia under their project “Greenhouse - A Plantar Aveiro!”. The people of Aveiro, in turn, besides contributing with a tree for every €10 spent, would receive a recycled paper bag and a beautiful wrapping paper with tips on how to reduce, reutilize and recycle during the holiday season, created with the help of our partner Veolia.

In sum, the generosity of the Aveiro people allowed us to plant around fifteen hundred trees! The planting actions will happen in the Reserva Natural das Dunas de São Jacinto during the spring. We’d like to thank everyone for making Aveiro a tad more green!

“Green Friday” is an action integrated into the “Plantar o Futuro” project, being co-organized by the Agrupamento de Escolas de Novo Príncipe - Cacia, Associação Comercial do Distrito de Aveiro and the Município de Aveiro. It was sponsored by Veolia, The Navigator Company and Ecomobile - Aluguer de Automóveis. The action is supported by IPDJ - Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude, I.P. and the Programa Voluntariado Jovem para a Natureza e Florestas.
